More volume, thicker soles and padded tongues: this is where you will find our sturdier-looking trainers.

The Adidas Campus 00s reworks the classic Campus with wider proportions; you can get it in Core Black, Grey White or Night Indigo White Gum, among others. Puma brings the LaMelo Ball LaFrancé in Black Gray Sky, White, Light Grey or Camo, and UGG the Lowmel in Black, Sand and Chestnut.

You can tell chunky trainers by their proportions: a thick sole, a padded tongue and wide laces that give the foot volume. Much of this selection draws on 90s and 2000s skate culture, with models from Adidas, Puma and UGG that have more or less presence.

Women's and men's chunky trainers: the models

The Adidas Campus 00s is the suede Campus with exaggerated proportions, closer to a skate shoe than to the original. You can get it in Core Black, Grey White or Night Indigo White Gum, and in women's versions like Halo Blush or the Campus 00s WTR in Warm Vanilla Gum. The Puma LaMelo Ball LaFrancé was LaMelo Ball's first lifestyle shoe, launched in 2024 and inspired by 90s skate: extra-wide laces, a heavily padded tongue and a cupsole. Right now it comes in Black Gray Sky, White, Light Grey or Camo.

How much volume do you want

Not all chunky trainers look equally big. The Campus 00s adds volume with hardly any height, the LaFrancé already looks noticeably wider, and the Adidas XLG Runner Deluxe 2.0 is in another league, with a very pronounced sole. If you want the padding without the skate look, the UGG Lowmel in Black or Sand has a wool lining inside. To take a closer look at each model, head to Adidas Campus, Puma LaMelo or XLG Runner.

How to wear them

The rule that works best is balance: wide-leg trousers or baggy jeans that fall over the tongue. With skinny jeans, the foot takes over and the silhouette looks off. You can try them on in your size in our stores in Madrid, Barcelona and Paris, or order online.

Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as a chunky trainer?

A trainer with bulky proportions: a high or wide sole, a padded tongue and wide laces. In this section the clearest examples are the Puma LaMelo Ball LaFrancé, with extra-wide laces and a cupsole, and the Adidas Campus 00s, a Campus with exaggerated proportions.

Do chunky trainers run large?

Looking big does not mean they are big inside: the volume is in the sole, the tongue and the padding. Each model has its own last, so check the size guide on each product before choosing.

What is the difference between the Campus 00s and the classic Campus?

The Campus 00s exaggerates the proportions of the original: more volume in the sole and overall, with more of a skate feel. If you want the slimmer version, look at the Adidas Campus page.

What trousers go with chunky trainers?

Wide-leg trousers, cargos or baggy jeans that fall over the trainer and balance the volume. Straight-leg joggers work too. With skinny trousers, the feet become too much of a focal point.
